Sphyraena idiastes
This species possesses a purely hydrodynamic anatomical design, built for speed and lightning-fast predatory strikes.
The body is extremely elongated, cylindrical, and slender — resembling an arrow or torpedo — a morphology that minimizes hydrodynamic drag to an absolute minimum.
The dorsal surface displays a bluish-gray to dark greenish coloration, while the flanks and ventral surface are a bright metallic silver. This countershading renders the fish nearly invisible from above — where it blends with the seafloor — and from below — where it merges with surface light.
The lower jaw projects markedly beyond the upper jaw, giving the species its characteristic pelican-like profile. The mouth is armed with multiple rows of dagger-shaped teeth — extremely sharp and of varying sizes — adapted for slashing and gripping fast-moving, slippery prey.
